Don’t let a fear of trying new things prevent you from living your life.

Last week, I published a blog post announcing my plan to try new things to practice getting outside of my comfort zone. I actually prefer to think of this as expanding my comfort zone.
In that post, I explained that my motivation behind this goal was to prepare for an upcoming trip to Japan. Although I have traveled internationally before, the last time I went out of the country was 10 years ago, and I feel a little nervous about this upcoming trip. I’m glad I got the inspiration to intentionally try new things as a way to prepare. I think this is a great opportunity for me to grow as a person.
My last post shared a list of ideas for the activities I wanted to try out, as well as a summary of what new activities I had already tried. This post goes over a few additional activities I included as part of this journey.
Trying New Activities To Get Out Of My Comfort Zone
Taking An Online Ballet Class
At the time I’m writing this, California is experiencing an extreme rainstorm. As a native Californian, I will openly admit I have very little experience dealing with rain. I enjoy going for walks during the day, but I didn’t want to walk in the rain. Not going on my usual walks was pretty uncomfortable for me. I was needing creative solutions to find movement during unpleasant weather. I recently started listening to the Wellness With Lana podcast. The host, Lana, mentioned taking a ballet class, which inspired me to try a beginner ballet class on YouTube.
Even though I took dance classes when I was younger, I only tried ballet maybe a handful of times. So, the idea of trying again as an adult was exciting. And, I loved it! The class I did was pretty simple since it was a beginner class, but the movements made me feel so graceful and beautiful. And taking a dance class was very fun for my inner child.
If you are in a rut and want to try a new form of movement and/or want to connect with your inner child, I would highly recommend trying a beginner ballet class on YouTube. Or in a local studio, if you have that option.
Trying a New Channel For Online Yoga
The next activity I am sharing is also a movement-based one. At someone I know’s recommendation, I decided to try one of Jessamyn Stanley’s yoga videos. I usually stick with the same YouTube channels for my yoga practices, so this presented another chance to incorporate something new to me.
Jessamyn Stanley is a body-positivity yoga instructor. If you are someone who wants to heal your relationship with movement or is seeking a more inclusive yoga environment, I would recommend checking out this channel. The video I tried was different from any other yoga video I’ve done, which was nice. It is good to mix things up and get a new perspective.
How To Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone And Try New Things Conclusion
When this post goes up, I am leaving for Japan on Monday. Part of me almost can’t believe this is actually happening. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have this incredible and exciting experience with my family. And I’m so proud of myself for embracing this opportunity to shake things up and grow as a person.
I did not do all of the activities I listed in my first blog post. I still would like to try some of those activities at some point, so I might come back to this challenge when I get back home in a few weeks.
