7 Tips to Make Driving More Fun & Enjoyable

Do you enjoy driving?

As I write this, I’m preparing to visit my Grandma for Easter!

I love visiting family. But honestly, I don’t look forward to long drives. So, I wanted to take this opportunity to create a strategy to make this drive more fun.

It is about a 3-hour drive. So nothing too crazy, but I still get bored.

If you also find long drives boring, these are some tips you can use to make your drives more fun and enjoyable.

Tips to Make Driving More Fun & Enjoyable

Wear a Cute (and Comfy) Outfit

Wearing a cute and comfortable outfit makes me feel good. Typically, I wear leggings and a comfy sweatshirt for long drives. Pick out whatever outfit will make you feel your best while keeping you comfortable.

Wear Cute Glasses/Sunglasses

Accessories can make any ocassion more fun!

My vision isn’t terrible, but I do have mild prescription glasses. I think they are so cute, and I love wearing them. I also have a collection of cute sunglasses that I bought on Etsy.

These small details can really make such a big difference in my mood.

Entertainment

Keeping yourself entertained is key to making a long drive pass by quickly. These are some good ways to entertain yourself while driving.

Podcasts

I love podcasts. I made a Spotify playlist called Road Trip Podcasts. This makes it easy to pull up my favorite podcasts since I know I can’t search for them while I’m driving.

If you want some podcast recommendations, check out this blog post I wrote about some of my favorite self-improvement podcasts that can help you become your best self.

Audiobooks

Audiobooks are another great way to keep yourself entertained while driving.

Did you know you can get free audiobooks from your local library? If you have a library card, you can sign into the Libby app, where you can borrow free ebooks and audiobooks.

If you don’t have a library card, I highly recommend signing up to get one because you can get access to a lot of great resources.

Getting an audiobook you feel excited about is a helpful plan to get yourself to look forward to driving. I borrowed a Sophie Kinsella book to listen to because I knew I would enjoy it.

I also didn’t let myself start the book early, which made me look forward to the drive.

Make Your Car Comfortable

I get chilly, so I like turning on my heated steering wheel, seat warmer, and heater to feel cozy. A comfortable environment will help make your drive more enjoyable.

Focus on Your Mindset

I’m a big fan of using mindset work to influence your experiences.

According to Very Well Mind, “Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you feel about yourself and the world. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation.”

Not only can you shift your mindset to help you achieve your goals, but you can also adapt your thoughts and beliefs to determine your reality.

Tony Robbins says “Where focus goes, energy flows.” This pretty much just means that your experiences amplify what your mind focuses on.

Instead of focusing on everything you don’t like about driving, tell yourself you feel excited about driving. This is how I get myself to feel more positive about driving.

Meditate

You want a clear head while driving.

Doing a short guided meditation can help you clear your mind and ground yourself before a long drive.

Part of why I find driving challenging is because I have a lot of racing thoughts. It feels uncomfortable to not be able to act on my thoughts because I’m in the car.

Meditation helps me calm those thoughts, which is why it’s good to do before a drive.

Take Deep Breaths

I found that taking long, deep breaths helps me stay calm and centered while driving. This is helpful when I start to get antsy. If you start getting restless after a few hours in the car, try taking deep breaths to calm yourself down.

Don’t Get Lost

Okay, so I can’t just say, “Don’t get lost,” and act like that is serious and useful advice. But I did get lost on my journey to Grandma’s house. I

missed my exit, and it was a whole thing. I can tell you that that was not fun.

If you use Google Maps, or another app, for directions, I advise you to pay extra attention and listen very carefully once you get close to your destination.

I hope these tips help you on your next drive!
