How to Romanticize Your Life This Summer

Finding small ways to make life feel special and looking for joy in everyday life feels so good. One way to do this is to romanticize the seasons.

Romanticizing life is about giving special care and attention to details. This is one of my favorite ways to make life feel more enjoyable.

The transition between seasons creates a fun and exciting opportunity to start a new chapter. Each season brings its own special qualities to embrace and a chance to regain inspiration and refresh your life

Where winter invites us to go inward, summer calls us to embrace the outdoors, activities, and social plans.

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how to make the most of this season. This post is full of tips to help you live intentionally and romanticize your life this summer.

Make a Summer Bucket List

Making a summer bucket list is a fun way to start getting excited about the season. Just remember that a bucket list is not an obligation. This is not a list of things you have to do. This is a list of activities you feel excited to do. There is no pressure and no shame or guilt if you don’t do everything (or anything) on your list.

Slow Down

Slowing down is key to romanticizing life. I know moving slowly is really hard in our fast-paced world. I have a busy mind and am often racing from one thing to the next. But slowing down and enjoying what each season has to offer is worth it.

Create Seasonal Rituals and Traditions

Seasonal rituals and traditions give you something to look forward to and help you stay rooted in the present moment.

One of the best ways to romanticize life through seasonal rituals is to focus on your senses. How can you curate sensory experiences that align with this season?

What flavors, scents, textures, and sounds feel like summer to you? Pick out perfumes, candles, and soaps to match that summer vibe.

Plus, rituals make a season feel memorable. This is helpful when it feels like time is passing by so quickly and we desperately want to hold on and make each moment count.

Rituals don’t have to be fancy or expensive, “and most rituals begin as ordinary things done with a little more attention.”

Incorporate Hygge

Hygge is a Danish concept and way of living that is hard to define, but loosely translates to “coziness.” While hygge is typically associated with fall and winter, slowing down and embracing coziness make life feel better in any season.

Although we typically associate cozy season with warm blankets, crackling fireplaces, and time spent indoors, summer has its own unique ways of being cozy.

Hygge principles include:

Togetherness with loved ones

A warm and inviting home

Spending time in nature

Living in the present moment

Make a point to incorporate these principles into your life this summer.

Appreciate the Longer Days

It is lovely to have the sun out when I finish work. Take advantage of that by spending some time outside in the evenings.

Make Plans with Friends

This is the season for fun plans. I love being a cozy homebody, but I also love going out and doing things with my friends. Summer sets the stage for so many fun activities, which brings us to our next couple of tips.

Have a Pool Day or Beach Day

Grab your favorite bathing suit, a towel, some sunscreen, a cold beverage, and a good book, and spend a day lounging by a pool

If you don’t have access to a pool, a beach day is another great option. Gather a group of friends, or make it a solo adventure.

Attend Local Events

Keep your eye on local event boards to discover fun activities to check out. Following local businesses on social media is another great way to stay up-to-date on what is happening in your area.

Visit Museums

I keep saying I want to visit my local museums, and that is my plan for this summer. Join me in seeking local museums and art galleries to frequent. Treat this as an opportunity to act like a tourist in your town.

Go to Concerts

Many cities offer free summer concerts, and I highly recommend checking these out if you can. There is something so special about hearing live music on a summer evening.

Complete a Summer Reading Challenge.

See if your local library offers a summer reading program. This is a fun way to motivate yourself to work through your TBR (and maybe win some prizes).

Even if your library doesn’t offer a summer reading challenge for adults, make sure to spend some time reading this summer. Bonus points for reading outside!

Consume Summer Media

I love leaning into seasonal media. Everything I’ve linked in this post is getting me excited to romanticize summer.

Get yourself in the summer mindset by watching shows and movies and reading books that feel like summer to you!

Listen to Seasonal Playlists

Music is another great way to get into the seasonal mood. Some songs just feel like summer. Make your own summer playlist or find one that resonates with you.

Make Time for Creative Summer Hobbies

With its light, breezy, relaxed vibes, summer feels like a good time to pick up a creative hobby.

🌞Crocheting

🌞Knitting

🌞Coloring

🌞DIY friendship bracelets

🌞Junk journaling

🌞Baking

Spend Time Outside

Summer is the season to spend time outside. I’m very fortunate to live somewhere with very nice weather. But I must admit that I don’t spend as much time outside as I would like.

If you are a homebody like me, make a point of getting outside. It might feel challenging to switch up your routine and leave your comfy and safe space, but it feels good in the end.

Plan a Vacation/Staycation

You don’t need a lavish or lengthy trip, but hopefully, you can get out of town for at least a few days to switch things up and get a change of scenery. If you can’t get away for whatever reason, at least plan a little staycation.

Connect With Your Inner Child

Summer evokes so much child-like nostalgia. While most of us, as adults, no longer get a true summer break, this season still provides a perfect opportunity to reconnect with your inner child. This might look like savoring your childhood favorite summer treats or setting aside time to revisit nostalgic summer activities.

I also highly recommend reading books and watching movies that remind you of childhood summer breaks.

Make Time for Seasonal Self-Care

Self-care is always important, and it is especially important to give yourself time to recharge during a busy season.

When you’re making your summer plans, remember to also set aside time for much-needed rest and relaxation.
